It was my birthday on Saturday so while the Cubs were having great fun, my hubby and I decided to head off to the Kruger National Park to have our own "safari"!

Rietvlei Nature Reserve Hike
Thanks to all the cubs and parents that joined us on Saturday for the Hike at Rietvlei.
On the way to the Picnic Area.
Getting together and ready for the hike.
Ready, Steady, Go!
Our guide showed us many interesting items found in nature. After our 5 km hike, we all stayed for a picnic lunch next to the dam.
Rietvlei Nature Reserve is well worth the trip and everyone had a great outing.
Till next time

Detectives
Our programme this week was on how to be a great detective!
An animal picture was pinned to the back of each cub. They paired up and could only "investigate" by asking questions as to what they were. Eg. Do I have fur? Do I fly? Do I bark? etc. etc.
This was only the beginning of their detective work!
Next, they all listened to a yarn about a murder that had taken place in the jewellry store below where they lived. In his haste, the burglar / murderer had dropped his bag of stolen items - which of course, we had picked up the following morning!
So the next game was where all cubs were blindfolded while listening to the yarn and then they were handed the bag that the burglar had dropped. They had to feel inside and see what had been stolen.

We then did wrote some "secret , invisible" letters.
..... and to see what what written or drawn, we used the hot iron to decipher a few!

This was a game done in Sixes and the first Six to the last clue was the winner!
The Leaping Wolf Group had to made a conservation stove. I had iced some water in these tins so that the cubs could hit nails into the sides without denting the tins.

Look Akela - no hands!
We ran our pack meeting and no-one was allowed to use their hands! Do you know how difficult this is?
We scattered the playing field with paper balls and the cubs, in relay formation, had to collect as many paper balls as possible, deposit them in their respective buckets - of course, without using their hands!
It is not as easy as it seems....
Go girl go....... and the winner was the Yellow Six (Girls Six) who collected the most.
Our next game was fun, fun, fun!
Plain doughnuts were strung up across the hall....
..... and the cubs were lined up in relay formation again and each cub had to come forward - hands behind their backs - and eat a doughnut until it was off the string.
They then ran back to their Six and the next cub came forward.
Ready for the next bite!
Mmmmm - delicious!
Too sweet for words!
Of course, they loved this game and wanted to do it again. Needless to say we did not have any more doughnuts!
Our next game was "pass the orange" which, I am sure you will agree with me, is not the easiest thing to do!
A few hands got in the way!
..... some managed to get it right.....
..... and did it pretty well .....
...... and some had a few mishaps!.....
The instruction for the Leaping Wolves was easy yet the cubs were quite reluctant to get going! They had to write an article.
...... nothing difficult ......
