District Gala - November 2008

Our District Gala was held last week Saturday at one of the local swimming pools.

We had a great turn out - thanks to all the cubs and parents who spent the morning at the pool.

This was one of the 'tube races' where 3 cubs push a 4th cubs across the pool in a huge tube!

Close up of a young cub having fun!
"I feel very relaxed here" ...... looking very much at ease whilst being pushed across the pool!

This was the novelty race whereby the cub had to put on antlers and a red nose, jump in the pool and collect "santa's presents" and load them onto the kicker board.

Doing pretty well in collecting all of Santa's lost presents!

Excellent work - found them all!

All in all the day went off very well with all the cubs taking part and enjoying themselves.
Till next Time

End of Year Party!

We have come to the end of the Cubbing Year! Can't believe how quickly it has passed by!
Whilst out and about, I found a super little gift for each cub which I wrapped up for them. I made each cub a card with their photo and a personalised message.
We end off each year with a huge party. These are syringes I purchased from the vet ... and had great fun filling them with jellies of different colours. To stop the jelly running out, I placed a "jelly tot" in the part where the needle should go.
The idea was to also put condensed milk into the top section, but most of the cubs preferred just the jelly.

Some of the many cup-cakes I made!

Few of the party plates!
.... laden with a sugar high .....

.... colourful juice .....

Oh! .... we did play games as well .... just a few!
This one was a relay game whereby the cubs had to carry a potato on an inner from a toilet roll, pass it to the next cub, who carried it to the next cubs and so on.

This was a fun bat and ball game.
The cubs had to place their foreheads on the top of the bat, run around the bat 10 times then run forward and hit the ball !!!

Easier said than done ....

..... and some items were destroyed in the effort!!

It's time to party!!

MMmmmm... this tastes yummy!

... absolutely delicious....
.... jaw-breakers in action ....

Mmmm - very good!

Cubbing is Frienship

Cubbing is sharing ...

.... and Cubbing is Fun!

"Oh, Akela, can we use these as water pistols"

Of course - that why we have them!

to have fun, fun and more fun!
(and the leaders were not safe either!)

All the gifts were hidden around the hall. Cubs had to find the first gift then sit down.
Once all the cubs had found a gift, they then read the name and went to exchange gifts and wish that cub 'merry Christmas"

Look - it is a torch!
Another happy Cub

Cubbing is Fun!

This week our meeting took place at the public swimming pool as we were practising for our annual gala!
Most of the cubs also completed their "swimming badge"

One of the races is where a mom has to dress up and be pushed across the pool on a raft. The year the picture was taken this mom had to hold a tray of cups very carefelly whilst 3 cubs pushed her across the pool.
This year, the mom must dress up as "Mother Christmas" - - - this should be fun!

I did not take photos at the pool on Friday and thought I would post some photos from past years...This is Baloo (Ruth) who now lives in Scotland. Hi, Ruth ... we still miss you terribly!

At one of our meetings last year, the cubs dressed up in Halloween outfits. We played a few games - one of which was "apple dunking". Have any of the Cub Leaders actually tried this game? It is not easy!

This photo was taken on a District Camp - "Around the World" and we "flew" everywhere in a jumbo jet! These were our delightful air hostesses!

Making fishing rods!

This is a fantastic game. Whilst cubs are busy in the hall, you start getting ready for the next game by telling the cubs to be very carefull where they walk. You deliberately tell them this knowing that they are watching you. Now, you place eggs all over the floor.
You chase the cubs outside and blindfold them!
You tell them now they have to walk through the mine field.
They of course are thinking that they will be walking on raw eggs ....... BUT whilst they have gone outside and are getting ready for the game, the other leaders have quickly picked up the eggs and placed "post toasties" on the floor.
As you can see from this photo, they think they are standing on the eggs!
It is hilarious!

Strange Animal Behaviour

Help Needed!
At our Sixer Council, the cubs decided that they would like to do Wild Animals next year as the theme. I thought I would add a bit of fun and find out what weird and wonderful animals there were out there around the world!
So if any of you reading this, can let me know about any strange animals from your country, I would appreciate it.
Example: I believe camels and Lama's spit when angry; the Bongo from Africa and so on!
Would love to hear from you all - you can leave me a comment below or email me here.

Wimpy Outing

We had a pack outing today - a trip to the Wimpy Roadhouse in Benoni!

These are just random photos of everyone enjoying themselves!

Mmmmm ... what shall I eat?

Double cheese-burger please

Having fun while waiting for the food!

Friendship

One of the ubs told me that he had learnt about something today ... I asked him what that was. His reply was that he had learnt about "friendship"
Isn't that something!

Just look at that naughtly grin!

Everyone had a super time - and we even had a few parents join in.
Our term is coming to an end.
Please remember that next week, we meet at the pool.
Till next Time
