Booming Bugs - 28th January 2011

We continue with our theme "journey through the ages" and today we take flight with some bugs and others!

Way before our timethere were many bugs that buzzzzzed and boggled...

Steam Release Game: Find the Bugs
Cubs run around collecting cards. Each card will have a safety rule for flying kites/gliders. In Sixes, cubs to stand up and read their safety fule to everyone and discuss.

Reading out all thos safety rules

Now that the cubs knew all the safety rules, it was time for business!

... the business of making a flying bug ....

Struan truely enjoyed himself here.. he loves working with his hands and is a true boffin when it comes to things like this - he is exceptionally good at knots and knew exactly what to do to make this kite...

The smaller cubs made their own gliders and took them outside to play.

.... and the kites were ready to fly ....

Fun from beginning to end...

You must remember that before we can fly we are all caterpillars and need to crawl around..
RELAY GAME: Caterpillar Crawl
Creat an obstacle course with cushions, chairs, boxes etc.
The first player in the team gets into a sack and has to navigate the obstacle in the bag on the floor.
We had a "going up" ceremony for 2 of our cubs..
We wish them all the very best and know that they will have a super time in the Troop.

New Recruit for the Boys Troop...

.. and also a new recruit for the Girls Troop.
Till next Time

Dinosaurs - 21st January 2010

The age of the DINOSAUR

and many travelled in herds...

Steam Release Game:
The CI is the leader of the "dinosaur herd" and cubs must follow his lead - doing this and doing that!

"do this - walk with legs up high"
All the animals knew their Outdoor Code .... do you?

Revision Game:
Cubs each had a magazine and cut out pictures to make their own Outdoor Code poster.

We all know that Dinosaurs did exist cause a lot of their bones have been found.
Relay Game:
Each Six is given dog biscuits shaped as bones and they each need to see if they can throw them accurately into a tin which is placed about 5 foot away.
Let's see if we can find our own Dinosaur!

Treasure Hunt
In teams, they need to find 10 cards with different Dinosaurs printed on them. When they have them all they are to return to base.

"a collection of cubs" !!

The Caracal group have already done "how to behave during flagbreak" and because we had a few new guys, I thought we could just play a game on how to fold the flag.

These young guys are very clever and picked it up with no problem.

The Cheetahs did Time

In the age of the Dinosaur, we also used to have Cavemen! Which one of you is the Caveman?

Circle Game
Dinosaur, Dinorsaur, Caveman
Cubs sit in a circle and one cub is on. He walks around the circle tapping others on head saying "dinosaur, dinosaur, dinosaur ...... and chooses a caveman" who will jump up and run after him. If the original cub who is on returns to his seat, he is safe; if caught, he will sit in the middle.

.... and all too soon we were finished....
Till next Time
