Beautiful Bees - 22 January 2009

Today we learnt about 'beautiful bees'
Our first game "Bee Sting" was a quick 5 minute game to get everyone up and about! As the name indicates, we had 3 Honeybees who were 'on' and they each had a huge sting handy (tennis ball). If anyone was stung, they could then sting someone else. As you can see from the photo above, this cub was well and truly stung!

"Let me see who I will sting now"

.... there were 2 little cubs sitting on a bench ....

The Leaping Wolf Group learnt the 24h00 clock and we played a quick game. Balloons are blown up and inside each balloon is a piece of paper with a time written on it - eg 23h55. On the ground are corresponding times but either written out - Five to Twelve - or shown on the clock face.

Divide the group into 2 and in relay fashion the cubs come up, pop a balloon and find the paper and then they must match it with the clock on the ground.

Here the cubs are trying to match their paper from the balloons. Once all the balloons are popped, you can see who managed to get the most correct.

The Cheetahs today learned all about "doing a Good Turn"

We were very busy bees collecting pollen from all the different flowers.

This game - collecting pollen - was a relay game where each cub is given a straw and they need to rush up to the front, take some pollen (sweet) from one flower (bowl) and put in onto another flower (the other bowl). Once completed see who the winner is and cubs can enjoy the sweets. I used marshmallows!

Pink Pollen

Our new chum was even having fun!

No programme would be complete without a little bit of craft work!

Should anyone like to have the template for the bee mask, please leave me a comment, plus an email address, below and I will gladly send it to you.

These bee masks are made of craft foam and should really be in black and yellow...

.... but the supplier had run out of those colours.
Pink and yellow don't look too bad either!
Thin elastic can be added to hold the mask onto the face.

Our bunch of bees!

Some interesting facts about bees:

They possess 5 eyes!

They cannot see the colour red!

Honeybees communicate by dancing to five direction and distance to flowers!

Two New Chums were invested today.

Welcome to the Pack!

New Chum saying his Promise

as proud as punch!

Welcome.

Till next time

  1. Oh, I'd love the templates for the Busy Bees-masks. Also, you had templates for Wolf-hats a few months ago, that I can't remember if I asked you for.

Sorry for not writing the pack letter that I had planned, but I've been a bit under the weather during the autumn.

    Best wishes
